Shotokan Karate of America is a nonprofit organization. All of the instructors at Chicago Shotokan are volunteers. They volunteer to teach because they love the art, and want to give back to the art that has in turn given them so much. This helps keep our costs low.

The following costs are associated with our dojo:

• Membership in Shotokan Karate of America – $125/year
• Access to our practice location, the Bernard Horwich JCC – Cost depends on the membership type. See below.
• A karate uniform – Approximately $40

Shotokan Karate of America

Shotokan Karate of America dues are $125 a year.

There are no fees for testing.

Membership in Shotokan Karate of America is required to participate in our practices. Membership in Shotokan Karate of America includes kyu tests (tests for rank), the opportunity to participate in special events, and the privilege of practicing at Shotokan Karate of America dojos across the country and at its international affiliates.

Bernard Horwich JCC

The Chicago Shotokan dojo practices at the Bernard Horwich JCC, so access to the JCC is required. The JCC is open to all members of the community, regardless of faith. Please see their website for membership information, as access to the JCC is required in order to practice.
