Shotokan Karate of America is a non-profit organization. All of the instructors at Chicago Shotokan are volunteers. They volunteer to teach because they love the art, and want to give back to the art that has in turn given them so much. There are no contracts, and no testing fees.
Bernard Horwich JCC
The Chicago Shotokan dojo practices at the Bernard Horwich JCC, so access to the JCC is required. The JCC is open to all members of the community, regardless of faith. Please see their website for membership information.
Shotokan Karate of America
Shotokan Karate of America dues are $75 for your first year, and $100 a year for renewals.
Membership in Shotokan Karate of America is required to participate in our practices. Membership in Shotokan Karate of America includes kyu tests (tests for rank), the opportunity to participate in special events, and the privilege of practicing at Shotokan Karate of America dojos across the country and at its international affiliates.
There is no charge to try a practice or two, to make sure our practice meets what you are looking for. After that, Shotokan Karate of America dues must be paid to continue to practice with Chicago Shotokan.
